Welcome to our website, where our children will show you some of the many varied and engaging experiences available to them in Rothes Primary School and Nursery.
Through these pages we would like to take you to the luxurious surroundings of our beautiful rural village school, set in lovely grounds with a cultivated paddock, woodlands, gardens and playgrounds, backing onto Mackessack Park.
At Rothes, there are currently four classes which are arranged in composite groups. We wish to show you our classrooms that are richly resourced and in all but one classroom the space is a double room, giving ample opportunity to move and create specific learning spaces and active experiences. Our Nursery is in a separate building with their own gardens including raised beds for growing their vegetables and a fenced wildlife area. The Nursery number varies but rarely reaches the maximum of fifteen pupils in any session.
We are proud of our teachers, support staff and volunteers. They are highly effective and dedicated, working with the children and building a motivating, challenging and exciting learning adventure.
Our vibrant and adventurous curriculum, along with rigorous attention to traditional educational values, means that learning at our school is always active, meaningful and thoroughly absorbing. You will discover what Curriculum for Excellence means here, where we are privileged to live in stunning countryside amid luxurious wooded glens, by the sparkling River Spey, gazing toward the peaks of the Cairngorms and close to the lively coastal villages of the teeming Moray Firth.
Our pupils are devoted to their heritage, excelling in music, drama, many sporting activities and keeping the cultural customs of the village idyll alive. They engage with local businesses, such as Glen Grant and Macallan distilleries, Walkers the Bakers, Baxters Foods, Forsyth's Coppersmiths and many smaller, local businesses and community groups. We link closely with the energy providers and benefit from the windfarm benevolent funds. We are committed to those experiences that uphold the traditions of Rothes, and hone skills to ensure a sustainable future for the village, the country and the world.
The ancient Rothes town motto "corde et manu" means that we are committed to contribute with our hands and we will do so with a passion and depth that comes straight from our hearts. In these pages we hope that you will glimpse the energetic and involved community and their great spirit of teamwork and cooperation that is at the core of this school and nursery, where we all join wholeheartedly to put our hands and minds to work to achieve our very best for ourselves and one another every day.
Begin your journey here, enjoy all you see, but please remember that there is so much more and a warm welcome awaits you should you join us in person. Please telephone for a personal appointment or look out for the Community Events, when our doors are open to everyone!
Mrs Beverley McPherson, Headteacher.
